Why is Quality Important?
You will find a huge range of prices for what at first glance appears to be identical product. Why is this? Well just about all globes are made in China but this doesn’t actually tell us anything as the importers dictate the price. There are in fact absolutely top products being made in China. With LED’s it’s the stuff that is left out that makes all the difference. A top quality LED with an expected minimum life of 50,000 hours will have a “buck & boost” regulator. What this little electronic chip does is keep the voltage at exactly 3.3 no matter what happens to the supply voltage variation wise. It also controls the current flow. Next it will have circuitry to enable it to be “bi-poplar”. This means it will work without being plus and minus sensitive. Next it will have a “smoothing” capacitor. This stops it flickering when you run your RV pump at low flows. Most importantly though is it will have some sort of “heat sink” to keep the emitters cool. All of this costs money and this is why quality units are more expensive. However they aren’t really as they last longer!
